This is how we do it.

We raise the money first.

That’s right, every home we place a family in has been paid for in full. This includes the property, structure and the renovations done to bring it up to our standard of quality. This ensures that we are able to provide each home to each mom in an affordable way for them.

100% for houses.

Our model is simple; however, our investment isn’t. Every dollar given to YELLOW HOUSE goes to the purchasing, renovation and maintaining of houses. It’s really that simple. Currently, all of the administration is being covered completely by BELIEVING CHURCH.

Finding houses never stops.

Because we’re serving single moms, we are constantly thinking about homes with access to good schools, grocery stores in the area, and other basic needs being nearby. In Memphis, this is a big deal. So we are always looking at properties and working to secure them before they are gobbled up by outside investors.

Quality is the key.

The shape that the home is in when we purchase it is only the beginning of the process for us. We will work to renovate every home so that it is safe, clean and quality for every family. Every home is different. Some need a ton of work. Some not as much. Our commitment remains the same. Quality, affordable housing for single moms to care for their families in.

Do families live in a YELLOW HOUSE for free?

No, that’s not how we do it. We believe single moms can, want to and need to provide for their families. Some just need something that works for them. So, our primary requirement is that each mom works full time. Then, her rent is set up at approximately 20% of her take home income or our current functioning minimum, which is way below market rate. We want to help each mom to be the hero for her kids. All this ensures that’s possible.

Someone in their corner.

The house provides the foundation, the stability that unlocks so many other doors, and we are in their corner to help connect them to every opportunity available. Each mom has an ADVOCATE from YELLOW HOUSE to partner with them and connect them to the amazing resources they need that are available in our city.

We will keep doing this.

Yes, we are starting with one house, but our vision is huge because the need is huge. There are thousands of single moms in our city working to provide a stable environment for their kids, and we believe this will make that a reality on the most basic level. So once we’ve done one, we’re starting the next with the hope of seeing every single mom have the opportunity to provide a stable home for their kids.

The end is the beginning.

Once the family is connected into their home, we are just getting started. Each family has an ADVOCATE who serves as their primary connection point with YELLOW HOUSE. Each advocate works to connect the family to the information, services and opportunities they need. At the end of the day, this is about relationship and that can change everything.
