It is practically impossible to create the home environment a kid needs without a house that’s affordable. For some people, this is not an issue; however, for many single moms in Memphis, this is the greatest challenge. It’s the one that never goes away.

Many of the struggles to provide for the family, come back to spending an unsustainable percentage of their income to put a roof over their family’s head.

We believe that kids cannot have a stable life if they do not have a stable home. For most families led by single moms, stability is simply a dream. The average kid who grows up in a single parent home moves 11 times more than a kids growing up in a multi-parent home, and most of those moves are serious. Rental rate hikes, evictions, poor living conditions… it’s challenging, and it’s the norm.

But it doesn’t have to be this way, and YELLOW HOUSE is working to change that.

Why? Cause when a family has a quality and affordable place to live, everything changes. Things mom couldn’t afford before, she can afford if she’s not having to spend 70% of her income on housing. She can be there for her kids more. Stress diminishes. Kids do better in school. Hope moves from being a concept to a daily reality.

That’s why YELLOW HOUSE exists. We are working to provide quality, affordable housing for single moms so that they can provide the stable foundation at home that every kid needs.
